The History
I will always call Morton a twist of fate. Making its play August the 25th 1995 when i first met Zoltan. I was working as a Historic Grand Prix Mechanic for B.R.M., many of the cars i worked on were located in the Donington Park Grand Prix Collection Museum, Derby. On this day Zoltan visited England to see „METALLICA“ who were headlining The Monsters of Rock Concert held on the grounds of Donington Park.
During the morning of the 25th Zoltan visited the Grand Prix section of the museum.
He looked interested in one of the Formular 1 cars once driven by Schumacher, me being the typical brit made a sarcastic remark and we shared a few laughs....ok now on to fate. Over the next eight years my career took an amazing U-turn. Handing in my oily overall and crossing the ocean landing in Vienna 2003 (but thats a different story).
Through a friend i met the owners of the infamous MG Sound Studios - and long story short, i bumped into ZOLTAN again, both wanting the same massage to be told through music, we started writing together.
Locking ourselfs away from the world until we found our sound, influenced by our admiration for Quentin Tarantino and my true life experiences we decided to name our band after the village i grew up in „MORTON“.
MORTON:
Population approx - 6 people, basically BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS IT.
Its the same in the music world. There is so much talent out there that it would be arrogant to say luck plays no part in success.
Morton Concept
The band MORTON came together through basic, right time, right place, nothing more!!! Since then singer-songwriter Rob Fowler and guitarist-songwriter Zoltan Sebestyen have proved to be a strong team. The roots of the music stem from real life experiences and moments of your day to day journal, accentuated by the Tarentino-style Guitar foundation from Zoltan. Me (Rob Fowler) considering myself as THE HOPELESS POET, feel that through our music we have the possibility to reach people by saying „Hey, we have problems too!" I admit that I'm a big believer in destiny/fate, coming from a small village also going by the name Morton in England, my options in terms of career were very limited, I set out as every young boy does in my home town wanting to be a mechanic and followed this dream until I finally got a position with an Historic Formula 1 team B.R.M. in this time my Father died suddenly from the untamed disease Cancer, I was 21, seeing my father die was the start of my new life, as he was not just my Dad he was also my Friend, my Family slowly drifted apart and after around 3 years my family decided to spend an evening in London. Our first trip to the Big City (you have understand up until this moment I'd only ever been around the community of my small village) we experienced the fast life and finished our day off in the Theatre, where for the first time since the death of my father I felt these performers reached out touched my very soul, from this moment I was able to accept love. MUSIC as an unwritten power, after this day my whole body filled with passion and I wanted to repay this experience, my family expressed love again, and it was just a matter of time and dreaming before fate put the "non singing/never learnt an instrument english boy next door" on stage. Yes our songs are filled with catchy hook lines, however I can honestly say I never intended to sit down and write a hit record I just write down my emotional experiences and if you listen close enough you will hear and hopefully understand we are not alone...........Rob, April 2006.
